🎶 Kalimba 3.0: The Ultimate Thumb Piano Experience 🌿
Discover the soulful charm of the Kalimba, a modernized version of the ancient African Mbira, also known as the thumb piano. With its delicate, percussive plucking sound and marimba-like warmth, the Kalimba adds a playful and captivating layer to any composition. Whether used alongside pianos or other tuned percussion instruments, it creates a sharp attack with a rich tonal body, ideal for bringing life to your music.
Crafted with care from wood and coconut shell, our Kalimbas feature hammered steel tines suspended over sound holes. The smaller instrument spans an octave and a half, while the larger model reaches over two octaves.
🎤 Meticulously Captured in 3 Unique Environments 🎧
We’ve captured the authentic Kalimba sound in 3 different settings:
- Close & Dry – A pristine, intimate studio recording.
- Medium Distance in a Bright Chamber – Crisp and lively acoustics.
- The Bunker – A deep, underground WWI-era artillery bunker, where sound takes on a haunting, immersive quality. Both close (1m) and far (15m) mic placements give you an array of rich, spatial variations.
The dry recordings feature stereo large-diaphragm condensers placed just inches from the tines, with slight wood scuffing and creaking to add character and realism.
